What: Briefing on Natural Gas Refuse Truck & Viewing of Demo Vehicle
When: September 19, 2007 @ 9am
Where: Radisson Plaza-Warwick Hotel, 1701 Locust Street
YOU’RE INVITED…
Greater Philadelphia Clean Cities Program and Energy Vision invite city and industry officials to join us to learn about and see one of the key vehicles of the future — a refuse truck powered by clean, domestic natural gas. The City of Philadelphia will be test driving this truck for one week in September. If added to the fleet, these vehicles can help ensure that Philadelphia becomes one of the greenest cities of the future.
BENEFITS
Natural gas refuse trucks have the potential of bringing both near and long term benefits to Philadelphia (as they have to more than 56 other US cities). Research by Energy Vision, a national environmental research organization, published two reports titled, “Greening Garbage Trucks” which documented that use of natural gas trucks for many cities has meant cleaner air, less noise, reduced greenhouse gases, greater fuel security and predictable costs today. Also, the infrastructure that delivers natural gas actually constitutes a step toward the use of even cleaner fuels in the future such as bio-methane made from landfill gases or hydrogen
DISCUSSION
We will discuss trends in the growing use of this advanced, low pollution truck in the US and elsewhere, its cost, and the steps that other communities have taken in launching successful clean refuse truck initiatives. You will hear from one of the leaders in the alternative fuel trucks sector (Greg Hallahan from Hallahan Trucks) and in the natural gas refueling business (Ray Burke from Clean Energy). After all questions have been answered, you will have a chance to see a demonstration of one of these new trucks.
JOIN US!
We believe that for those who are committed to a sustainable future for Philadelphia, learning about and seeing this new technology option will be both interesting and exciting.
Space is limited, so please RSVP as soon as possible to: coordinator@phillycleancities.org, or 215-413-2122.
Special thanks to Emily McGlynn, Clean Energy and Hallahan Trucks for their participtaion.
