OSLO Buses Run on Renewable Natural Gas

December, 2011

As part of a plan in Oslo, Norway, to make the city carbon neutral by 2050, The City of Oslo Water and Sewage Works and the Bekkelaget Sewage Treatment Plant teamed up. Since September 2009, they have had 80 city buses powered by biomethane made from sewage gas. Mobile gas tankers transport the fuel to local filling stations. The clean fuel is displacing 52,500 gallons of diesel a year.
