New York City's MTA Upgrades its CNG Bus Fleet

Cummins Westport ISL G to Power 475 Transit Buses for New York City

CNGVA member Cummins Westport is to supply up to 475 ISL G engines to support a transit bus order placed by the New York Metropolitan Transit Authority (NYMTA) with Winnipeg-based New Flyer Industries. The order is for 135 40’ CNG buses with options for an additional 340 buses. NYMTA currently operates 190 New Flyer CNG transit buses. Of the 823 buses that Canadian company New Flyer has sold to NYMTA since 1996, one in five has been CNG. New Flyer CNG transit buses are in use in 65 cities in North America. The recent order adds an estimated $216 million to the company’s order backlog.
