ENERGY VISION’S FIFTH ANNIVERSARY CELEBRATION

Energy Vision presented its 2011 Energy Vision Leadership Awards to Westport Innovations, Waste Management, and Congressman Steve Israel at its November 17th Fifth Anniversary Celebration in Manhattan. The “all green” affair was co-chaired by EV Board members Blythe Danner and Brendan Sexton, and by Clean Energy CEO Andrew J. Littlefair.

 

Brendan Sexton, President of The Sexton Group and former Commissioner of Sanitation of NYC, introduced the Awardees, telling EV's 125 guests “Our awardees are true ‘Energy Visionaries.’ All three have played an instrumental role in this country's progress, weaning our transportation sector from its dangerous dependence on foreign oil.”

 

Westport Innovations, founded in 1995 by CEO David R. Demers, was honored for its pioneering work in the development of technologies that now enable heavy duty fleets to run on natural gas or waste-based renewable natural gas. (For Westport Innovations’ award, click here)

 

Waste Management, the largest waste services and recycling company in North America, was recognized for its leadership in green fleets and fuels. (For Waste Management’s Award, click here)

 

Congressman Steve Israel, who represents New York's 2nd Congressional District, which includes the Long Island communities of Huntington, Babylon, Islip, Smithtown and Oyster Bay, was honored for a decade of work backing policies supporting renewable energy and alternative vehicle fuels on the local and national levels.
