Everyone talks about ‘greening’ these days, and one of the biggest opportunities for NYC are the 6000 garbage and recycling trucks on our streets,” according to Energy Vision’s Underwood. “The truth is that diesel garbage trucks, while improved, are still among the greatest polluters in our cities and are still hooked on oil. They contribute to the high asthma rates in many communities, especially low income and communities of color. New natural gas garbage trucks are not only the cleanest and quietest on the market but are petroleum-fuel free! They are a great step to take.”

At the event, Ms. Danner will help unveil two brightly decorated natural gas-powered trucks — the recent acquisitions of Filco Carting and Metropolitan Paper Recycling, and a DSNY natural gas street sweeper. Energy Vision will distribute its new report, Fueling a Greener Future: NYC Metropolitan Region Garbage Fleets Commit to Alternative Fuels, which features 2007 initiatives putting 38 new natural gas trucks on the streets in the NYC Metro Region, slashing the burden of pollution by more than 100 tons a year!
